Climb the skiing ridge: Buchberg mountain is a favourite of skiers, skimo enthusiasts and snowshoe hikers. Start from the baby lift parking lot and head up towards the wide slopes of the Eyersperg ski run. Continue next to the piste, always staying close to the edge and in the unprepared meadows because it’s popular with skiers). After the piste turns, you’ll soon pull level with the mountain station in the first section. Here, you’ll continue uphill through a relatively narrow section of forest. Again, stay on the sunny right edge of the piste. The Buchberg summit (1,234 m | 4,049 ft) will soon come into view. At the top you’ll find benches to rest and soak up the sun.
Our tip: You can also descend via Section 3 (ungroomed, closed to skiers) on the backside of Buchberg mountain. Pay close attention where the piste turns, directly after the section of forest off to the right of the farm road; there, you’ll head off into the meadows above Wörnsdorf and back towards Eyersperg and the baby lift parking lot. If there are a lot of skiers on the slopes, you may also want to take this route up.
One of nature’s blessings: Take Goldegger Landesstraße to Goldeggweng and continue towards Böndlsee lake. Park at the parking lot for what used to be the ski lift for Section 3 of Buchberg mountain or at the turnoff onto Quezler road (toward Kleinrohrerbauer farm). From here, you’ll start your ascent on Quezler road or through the meadows.
Then you’ll be on moderately steep slopes up to a farm and, from there, on gently sloping meadows. Once you’re above Meislsteinalm restaurant, it’s all flat terrain to Hirtenkapelle chapel on Meislstein mountain. Cross the slope to the chapel, which stands on a little hilltop. Catch your breath and rest for a moment before you ski back down through the fresh powder the way you came.
